The pressure for youngsters to perform at school today is as high as it has ever been. In Asia this has led to a 'tutor culture,' in which specialist teachers provide private tuition to those who want, and can afford, it. Yet far from giving the continent's youngsters an edge over their tutor-less peers, it appears more successful at turning a band of young, good-looking teachers into superstars, particularly in Hong Kong.

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling that forced an Oregon school district to reimburse parents of a special-needs student for private tuition opens doors for students in other states, education officials say. Last month's 6-3 ruling forced the Forest Grove, Ore., school district to pay $65,000 to the parents of a teenage boy whom the district repeatedly said was ineligible for special education.

Early college high school is graduating its 1st class

The first class in Toledo Early College High School graduated Thursday with most students possessing 50 to 60 college credits. "I think it's so amazing we get this opportunity because it really is life-changing," said valedictorian Lauren Merrell, who is the first in her family to attend college.
