TPS has used about half its stimulus cash

Tulsa Public Schools has spent or encumbered nearly half of the $16.7 million the district received in federal Title I funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with the salaries of 47 employees being supported by the federal stimulus bill.

By law, federal Title I funds only can be spent on scientifically based programs, materials and technology for improving student achievement in reading and math.

It also can be spent on professional development and student services such as tutoring, and to hire reading and math specialists.
