Schools struggle to pay for program

While state officials have helped curb this year's deep education cuts with federal stimulus money and some state reserve funds, school districts are still working to fill at least one budget hole left — employee flex benefit allowance plan funding.

While an agreement between Gov. Brad Henry and the Legislature would allow the use of some federal funds and some money from the so-called "rainy day" fund to pay for gaping holes in state aid for education, that money cannot go toward school employee insurance plans, Oklahoma State Department of Education officials said last week.
