In 1970, Fairfax County Public Schools called on its business and professional community for assistance in providing an educational program that would develop vocational skills with direct transfer capability to the employer. The result was the formation of a unique partnership known as the Foundation for Applied Technical Education, Inc. The foundation consists of representatives from a wide range of business and professional organization, as well as individuals dedicated to assisting the school system in providing "real world" educational experience for interested high school students. -- http://www.fatefacts.net/about.html
