The state Board of Education approved a measure Thursday to ask the Legislature to fully fund bonuses for teachers who obtained national board certification.

Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an intense, rigorous, yearlong process, and the certification lasts 10 years. This year, Oklahoma has about 2,900 National Board Certified teachers and speech pathologists in 356 school districts receiving the stipend.
