OEA: Teachers may need to sue for stipend

Oklahoma teachers who received $350 less in their bonus checks this year for obtaining National Board Certification may have to take legal action against their school districts to dispute the deductions, the Oklahoma Education Association has advised its members.

Because of record shortfalls in state tax revenues, the Oklahoma State Department of Education initially came up more than $4.6 million short in appropriations for stipends in the 2009-10 academic year.
