What Makes a Great Teacher?

For years, the secrets to great teaching have seemed more like alchemy than science, a mix of motivational mumbo jumbo and misty-eyed tales of inspiration and dedication. But for more than a decade, one organization has been tracking hundreds of thousands of kids, and looking at why some teachers can move them three grade levels ahead in a year and others can’t.

This article proves what many of us have known, that great teachers are the ones who love to learn! It also makes me so proud of my nephew who is working for Teach for America in Las Vegas.

Well this blows the theory out of the water that alternatively certified teachers are the worst thing to hit classrooms - TFA teachers are alternatively certified.

I read Katie Haycock (Hancock?) from Education Trust report very similar information about quality teachers making a huge difference in "hopeless" schools at the CASMEO summit several years ago! Hopefully someone will start listening soon....
