Some 3,300 Washington, D.C., middle-school students had their first payday Friday, collectively earning $137,813 for good grades, attendance and behavior, which averaged out to about $43 per student. Educators said fewer students have been tardy so far this year, but how the program will affect grades is yet to be determined.

"Sixth-grader Kevin Sparrow-Bey, who took in $20, said he was annoyed by the assumption that he and his classmates have to be paid to take school seriously."

Getting paid real money for grades, behavior, and attendance. Sounds just like a real job. I think it is an interesting idea, but I still wonder if it is necessary or in their best interst. The reason they don't already have jobs is because they are kids. How fast do we want them to grow up?
