Longfellow Middle School receives grant for technology

The school will use the money to purchase laptops for every seventh- and eighth-grade student. Part of the money also will be used for teacher training sessions and improvements to the school’s information technology system to support the added computers.

Students of Norman North High School haven’t broken the bank. The high schoolers signed over two checks in marker Tuesday morning of more than $35,000 each — surpassing their goal of $60,000 combined — to two families of the Norman Public Schools.

Al Miller was involved with Cleveland Elementary’s Gifted and Talented program in which Principal, Ty Bell offered a series on aircraft titled “Flight.” The kids made model rockets and airplanes and learned basic concepts about aerodynamics. Miller was bitten by the flying bug and wanted to get up in the air.

For the last two weeks, Norman North High School astronomy students have been counting the stars of Orion — adding up to three or four on a clear night — and trekking around Norman, searching for a dark oasis shielded from the lights of University of Oklahoma’s stadium and downtown.

Program helping Norman students catch healthier habits

Coordinated Approach to Child Health started as a pilot program three years ago at Kennedy. The program provides at least 30 minutes of organized physical exercise for students every day and a nutrition lesson once a week. The program is aimed at fighting childhood obesity.
