Making the Grade

Nancy Flanagan -- So robo-readers can grade student essays faster and more "accurately" than actual humans--if you're willing to overlook a few minor details, such as logic and coherence? I have to admit, being able to grade 16,000 essays in twenty seconds is pretty impressive.

About those Reward Schools

Recently, Oklahoma State Department of Education recognized more than 100 Reward Schools from throughout the state. Representatives from schools all over the state who received these awards – as well as those who did not receive them – found the criteria for them to be quite vague. What these criteria do not explain is how different performance levels were weighted in determining the rank order lists.

Those ‘slush’ funds

WE’RE AFRAID PUBLIC OPINION is drastically unfair to long-time, former Superintendent of Public Instruction Sandy Garrett, relative to the so-called “secret slush funds” at the State Department of Education.
Sandy, who served several terms in that office, took innovative, enterprising action that was helpful to the Department, without causing one red cent of cost of taxpayers money, and now is getting some rough treatment from the State Auditor’s office.
